ILOILO City – Bureau of Fire Protection investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze that struck two houses on R. Mapa Street, Barangay Maria Clara, City Proper.
One of the houses was razed while the other was damaged, according to City Fire Marshal Christopher Regencia.
Fire struck the houses at around 5:23 p.m. on Saturday. Investigators estimated the cost of damage at P80,000.
Emelio Alfaras owned the gutted house. The BFP has yet to identify the owner of the other.
“We’re looking at electrical short circuit as possible cause,” Regencia told Panay News. “Rains may have cause some grounding and ignition.”
The fire started at the ceiling of the house of Alfaras. It quickly spread, especially that the house was made of wood and nipa, said the city fire marshal.
No one was reported hurt. The BFP put the fire under control at around 5:40 p.m. and declared “fire out” at around 5:56 p.m./PN
