What People Say: Politicians and SK

What can you say about politicians meddling in the affairs of the Sangguniang Kabataan?

Indi gid ko pabor nga ang politiko manghilabot sa Sangguniang Kabataan because himuon na nila suluguon. Mahapos daan istoryahon ang SK kag worse, basi tudloan nila sang indi manami nga panginmanwa. KARL JAN GORRICETA, SK chairman, Barangay Dungon C, Mandurriao, Iloilo City

For me it is all right for politicians to be involved in the affairs of the Sangguniang Kabataan as along as their intentions are clean. It is good for the SK to learn from higher officials in a good manner. – CAMELA PRANCILISO, GIP, Department of Labor and Employment Region 6

I believe it would be helpful for the SK if politicians are involved in their affairs. They will guide those SK officials on how to perform their responsibilities properly. – THEA GALARAGA, Education student, West Visayas State University

The supposed independence of the SK has always been a cover up for those politicians hungry for more power. It is such a disgrace. Progress is impossible with these “trapos” around. – ALH IAN BELICANO, SK chairman candidate, May 2018 election, Barangay Sto. Rosario, Ajuy, Iloilo

Politicians have no right to interfere in the affairs of the SK. They can only give advice. The decisions must be made by the SK officials themselves. – ERICA LAURESTA, SK kagawad, Barangay Tigum, Pavia, Iloilo

Instead of being against every action of politicians, let’s just support them in improving our barangays. I believe not all barangays are engaged in dirty politics. Kilala man sang isa ka tawo ang iya barangay. – JOECEL FELIZARDO, provisionary teacher, Leon Central Elementary School

The SK Reform Act of 2015 requires those running for the SK to be 18 to 24 years old. I believe more capable and responsible na ang mga SK officials and indi na dapat intrahan pa sang mga politiko. Indi man guro sila magpadalagan kun indi sila kabalo sang mga pasikot-sikot nga mga ulubrahon nila. – CINDY NOMBRES, 16, student, Barotac Nuevo National High School

Dirty politics exists. I was elected as SK chairwoman and I have witnessed how rude and unfair some politicians were. It all started sang SK Federation election. Sila gid ‘ya ang mandatos kag kun indi ikaw ang ila manok kaluluoy ka. Damo na diri sa amon district, indi lang ko mag-mention names for my own good. – GIRL SK, 20, student, 5th District of Iloilo

Tani indi na sila pag intrahan sang mga politiko kay kabalo dun na sila. Most of them are college graduates and may mga Latin honors pa gani, kabalo dun na sila mag ubra sang mga resolutions, mag ubra sang ila presentation, mag-handle money kag mga projects nila. May mga tuyo na ya guro ang gapanghingabot sa mga SK. – MYLIN BANGGUD, 47, housewife, Pototan, Iloilo

Politicians will always meddle in the affairs of theSangguniang Kabataan kay siyempre billions ang budget and these youths are newbies so wala sila gawa knowledge what and where to allocate this money wherein dapat mapuslan gid sang everybody, especially the youth. – CHRISTIAN RODRIGO, 18, student, Iloilo State College of Fisheries, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo

Sometimes may mga salient points man nga ginatugda ang mga politiko and oftentimes naman nga gatugda sila kun project na ang istoryahan. Feeling ko gani kickback man lang na ila lagas pero ga-observe pa ko ah, may more meetings pa man daw kami tanan. – BOY SK, 20, student, Iloilo City

Politicians will always be politicians. They will always be involved. Ara dun na ya sa mga SK kun mapati or mapa-into sila. Dako nga salig ang ginhatag namon sa ila so I’m hoping nga sa insakto permi sila kag mayo nga cooperation kag decision ang ila maubra. No to corruption ah! – DWIGHT BRASELIÑO, 19, student, West Visayas State University, Pototan Campus
