ILOILO City – Which day between Oct. 1 and Oct. 8 is auspicious to file a certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2022 elections?
Political aspirants file their COCs based on beliefs or panimad-on, according to Jonathan Sayno, assistant election officer of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here.
Some rely on feng shui.
“Iban Friday or Tuesday wala ga-file. Monday ang gina-consider nila. Iban gapati man nga kon ikaw ang pinaka-una nag-file, swerte. Iban nagapati man sa last hour sang filing sang COC,” said Sayno.
On the first day of COC filing, only two candidates showed up here – perennial election candidate Mel Carreon who will run for city councilor and Vicente Parana Ang, a resident of Rizal Pala-pala II, for city mayor.
Sayno expects an influx of candidates on Oct. 8, as eight is considered a “lucky” number.
Meanwhile, based on his information, the group of incumbent Mayor Jerry Treñas will file their COCs on Oct. 6.
Sayno advised aspiring candidates not to wait for the last day of filing.
“Indi kita pwede ka palapaw basi may ara sang hassle. As early as possible, file na,” he said.
On the other hand, the Iloilo City Compliance Team reminded aspirants to observe the minimum public health protocols like wearing of face masks and shield, and physical distancing at poll offices.
Compliance team head Nestor Canong said only three persons – the candidate and two companions – are allowed in the Comelec center when filing.
