ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. has not decided yet who to support for president in the May 2022 elections.
According to Defensor, he will wait for the decision of the National Unity Party (NUP), of which he and Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas are members.
On Tuesday, Treñas posted on Twitter photos of him and Vice President Leni Robredo when the former visited Iloilo City.
“Para maganda ang gising nyo bukas,” Treñas captioned.
However, Treñas clarified he would also wait for NUP’s decision.
“If left to my own, I will support her but I will wait for my party’s decision,” he said.
“I have clearly stated that only VP Leni helped us in our COVID (coronavirus disease 2019) response,” said Treñas. “I have known her since she was a congressman and the late (Interior secretary) Jessie (Robredo) was a good friend.”
In another post entitled “Compassion and Commitment” on his official Facebook account, Treñas expressed appreciation to Robredo.
He quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: “We need leaders not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity.”
“When you understand the cry of the community, we should not wait for the click of the camera to act. As a public servant and a lawyer, I should stand firm for the welfare of my people. As the father of the city, I must also choose the right leader to guide and lead us – someone who has shown an unyielding courage in the face of adversity, someone who has proven to be effective despite the limited resources, and someone who has no traces of corruption,” Treñas’ Facebook post further read./PN
