BACOLOD City – Police were still trying to identify the suspects in the fatal shooting of a laborer in Barangay Mansalanao, La Castellana, Negros Occidental.
The 36-year-old resident Gino Tongha Edem died of a gunshot wound on the head.
Edem was watching a cockfight at a provisional arena when a person fired at him at around 5:20 p.m. Sunday, police said.
Witnesses saw the gunman run up to a motorcycle and drive away.
Along the way the gunman’s motorcycle plunged into a canal. Another motorcycle-riding man, a suspected cohort, fetched the gunman and they sped away toward an unknown direction, police said.
Four live bullets of a .357 pistol, a black Nokia cellphone, a green shirt, and a yellow-and-black Rusi motorcycle were recovered from the crime scene.
A bullet ricocheted and hit Jimmy Teñero Tijamo, 33, of the same village on the right elbow. He was taken to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here./PN
