ILOILO City – Livino B. Duran, the regional executive director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for Region 6, officially retired from government service on Wednesday, June 26, after an extensive career spanning 42 years, five months, and 22 days.

Duran’s retirement was commemorated during the “Pasidungog kag Pagdayaw 2024” held by DENR-6 on the same afternoon. This annual ceremony honors retirees, posthumous awardees, and other personnel for their dedication and contributions to the agency. Among the attendees were DENR employees and various stakeholders who have supported the region’s projects and initiatives over the years.

In an interview, Duran expressed his gratitude towards the DENR family, media partners, and all stakeholders involved in the successful implementation of his regional programs and projects, which have significantly contributed to the DENR’s overall performance.

“I have already spoken to the Honorable Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga and our undersecretaries,” Duran stated. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the government.”

Duran acknowledged that while there were some minor slippages during his tenure, he believes his contributions to the DENR far outweigh them. He highlighted several significant achievements, including contributions to DENR policy-making, implementing forest land management projects, realizing the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project in Iloilo, negotiating peace with RPA-ABB, and the rehabilitation of Boracay Island.

Following Duran’’s retirement, Raul L. Lorilla, the Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services at DENR-6, has been designated as the officer-in-charge. This interim appointment will remain in effect until a new regional executive director is officially appointed.

Duran expressed hope that Lorilla would continue to uphold the high standards of performance that have characterized the region, maintaining its status as a leading performer in the country./PN
