ILOILO – The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) may be getting a full-fledged director next week.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) will make the announcement, according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. who confirmed on Friday that he has yet to choose from the list of nominees submitted by the Philippine National Police.
At present, the IPPO is headed by Police Colonel Noel Aliño in an acting capacity only. He took over from Police Colonel Adrian Acollador on Oct. 12, 2022.
Defensor declined to name the nominees but said he was checking their backgrounds.
“May deadline ta nga 10 days from the time we received (the list of nominees),” said Defensor.
The deadline is Monday next week, Feb. 13. Before or on that day he must be able to make his choice then inform the PRO-6 about it.
According to Defensor, he is looking for a hardworking police provincial director able to address the peace and order concerns of Iloilo’s 42 towns and the component city of Passi.
He also said the IPPO director must be assiduous in carrying out the provincial government’s campaign against illegal fishing particularly in northern Iloilo, illegal drugs, and criminality.
The scholastic record and law enforcement experiences of the nominees will also be considered, Defensor added.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 94-009 (guidelines on the designation of police provincial directors and other chiefs of police), an incumbent provincial police director or city/municipal chief of police may be removed, transferred or re-assigned without the prior approval of the governor or mayor.
