WITH the success of last year’s “The Hows of Us,” which earned over P800 million worldwide, fans are no doubt looking forward to what Star Cinema has in store for prized stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla this year.
Little did anybody know that its new movie starring Bernardo will pair the actress with Alden Richards, one of the top leading men of rival network GMA-7, rather than her usual partner.
The unexpected announcement was made Tuesday afternoon, with the reveal that Cathy Garcia-Molina is directing. Almost the entire movie about young overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will be shot in Hong Kong.
“Kung tatanungin ninyo ako kung kinakabahan ako, yes super! Pero it’s a good thing,” Bernardo said when asked by ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe about what she thought of her new co-star.
“Nae-excite ako kung anong mangyayari dito, kung paano kaming dalawa. Hindi ko talaga alam kung anong mararamdaman pero for sure I’m very happy. …Ang laking adjustment nito hindi lang para sa akin, kung hindi para na rin kay Alden.”
For his part, Richards explained that he sees this rare chance to do a movie with Bernardo as an opportunity to challenge himself. “It’s a great honor and experience kasi I’m really in that stage of exploring the craft and my capability as an actor,” he said.
He continued by saying that he agreed to the project because it also meant that he gets to work with Garcia-Molina, a director he looks up to, mainly because he’s a fan of “One More Chance.”
“To be directed by someone who made that film, sobrang fan po kasi ko nung John Lloyd [Cruz] and Bea [Alonzo], parang total package na po – wala na po akong hihilingin, sobrang saya ko po na nabigyan ako ng chance,” he gushed.
Response to the project have been overwhelmingly positive on Twitter, with both set of supporters — Bernardo’s fans and Alden’s – promising to watch the new and exciting team up.
This is the first time Bernardo and Richards will be working on a movie together.
It’s also the Star Cinema debut for Richards, known as the other half of the popular “AlDub” love team with Maine Mendoza.
There’s no target release date yet for the new movie but filming is scheduled to start next month. (ABS-CBN News)
