ILOILO City – Here’s a Valentine’s Day treat for motorists and commuters using the road along Barangay Ungka II in Pavia, Iloilo.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 director Nerie D. Bueno confirmed that the widened lanes beneath the Ungka flyover are already passable starting today.
In an interview with Panay News yesterday after the Regional Development Council (RDC) Region 6 meeting with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 6 presided over by Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas, Bueno explained, “We are just widening (the road) so that we can accommodate at least two vehicles.”
She said the widened road will now ease traffic congestion in the area especially during rush hours from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Bueno also vouched that they will continue working on the sidewalks and drainage and install signage in Barangay Ungka II.
To note, to beat the Feb. 14 deadline for the road widening’s completion, civil works ran for almost 24 hours each day.
To recall, DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan told Ilonggos that the widened Ungka road will be passable by Feb. 14 as a temporary aid to the traffic congestion brought by the unusable P680-million flyover.
Bonoan went to Iloilo City last month to personally inspect the said flyover./PN
