ILOILO City – The police of Miag-ao, Iloilo arrested a seaman in the town’s Barangay San Rafael.
The 40-year-old Romel Nofuoerto was accused of abusing his wife, according to the police.
Cops served Nofuoerto’s arrest warrant on Tuesday around 12:45 p.m.
Judge Eduardo Israel Tanguanco of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 89 issued the arrest warrant.
The wife charged her husband with violating Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004).
Nofuoerto was taken to the Miag-ao police station.
Section 2 of Republic Act 9262 states: “…the State values the dignity of women and children and guarantees full respect for human rights. The State also recognizes the need to protect the family and its members particularly women and children, from violence and threats to their personal safety and security.”/PN
