ILOILO City – Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Her husband had it coming, according to the wife who cut her man’s manhood with a pair of scissors on Saturday night in Barangay Barosbos, Carles, Iloilo.
Lizel Betita surrendered to the police of Balasan town on Sunday night.
“This was the fifth time he cheated on me. I’ve had enough,” she said in a radio interview after surfacing.
Lizel fled to Barangay Malotoc, Balasan after the genital mutilation of her husband Mark, 33.
She was willing to face the legal consequences of her action, she said.
Under Article 262 of the Revised Penal Code, anyone intentionally mutilating another by depriving him, either totally or partially, of some essential organ of reproduction shall be punished for mutilation.
The wife hid with relatives in Barangay Malotoc for a day then sought the help of village officials so she could surrender to the police.
“I didn’t want us to part ways. If I couldn’t keep him, no other woman should,” said Lizel.
As of this writing, Mark was still confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center. He had yet to confirm or deny cheating on his wife.
Lizel said she somehow regretted cutting her husband’s penis but she must teach him a lesson.
She also said she was only after the welfare of her children. They would suffer if she and her husband would separate, she explained.
The couple had three children, all girls.
The genital mutilation was carried out at around 10:30 p.m. while Mark was sleeping.
Lizel would be transferred to the Carles police station, according to the Balasan police. She would be charged with mutilation./PN
