ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday announced he will be running again in the upcoming midterm elections in May 2025.
But Treñas has left the media hanging when he refused to elaborate on what position he will be running for next year.
Treñas, of the National Unity Party (NUP), also refused to confirm speculations that his daughter, Raisa Treñas-Chu, will replace him in the mayoralty post. “Ambot,” the city mayor told reporters when pressed to further elaborate his statement.
Treñas won in a landslide victory after garnering 187,691 votes against his challenger, broadcaster Salvador “Jun” Capulot, who garnered only 54,552 during the May 2022 elections.
The city mayor also squelched talks that a Marcos family member will also run for a position in Iloilo City.
It can be recalled that presidential sister, Sen. Imee Marcos, also dispelled rumors about the reported plans of the President’s sons to enter politics in this city.
Treñas said he has no plans to shift allegiance to the President’s political party, the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), saying the NUP is also “supportive of the President.”
The 2025 midterm elections in the Philippines are scheduled for May 12, 2025.
The filing of the certificate of candidacy (COC) for next year’s elections is scheduled for October this year./PN
