WESTERN Institute of Technology stamped class to capture the overall championship in tertiary women’s and men’s category of the 2018 Iloilo PRISAA athletics in Iloilo City.
WIT dominated the women’s events with 21 gold, five silver and seven bronze medals while topping the men’s side with 12 gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals.
Ezel Divinagracia carried the fight for WIT with four gold medals in 400m hurdles, 200m dash, and 4x400m and 4×100 relays with Abigail Odelmo, Lorena Damasco and Amabel Java.
Odelmo also had her share of individual medals with golds in 5000m and 10,000m runs and a silver in 3000m run, while Damasco claimed her other gold medal in the 100m hurdles.
Jhoanna Sajonia captured golds in long jump and javelin throw and a silver in triple jump while Liezel Siray also finished with a gold medal in 1500m and 800m runs and a bronze in 3000m run.
Caryl Tocino had golds in shot put and discus throw. Thea Anne Bagaforo bagged gold in 3000m run and bronze medals in 5000m and 1500m runs, while Dailyn Cubita had silver in shot put and bronze in discus throw.
Other silver medal winners for WIT’s women’s team were Elmae Divinagracia (100m hurdles) and Avegil Clemente (2000m walk), while bronze winners were Jenerose Estiaga (800m run and 2000m walk) and Jessa Fe Porras (high jump).
In tertiary men’s category, John Alden Doronilla (3000m and 1500m runs) and Romnick Dago (5000m and 10,000m runs) captured two gold medals each to spearhead WIT’s campaign.
Melvin Eledia also had two golds in 800m run and 4x400m relay (with Joemarie Delgado, Paulo Mirar and Rofrey Gilv) and silver in 1500m run, while Ronald Lacson had gold in javelin throw and silver in shot put. John Francis Biñas had high jump gold and a bronze in 400m dash./PN
