ILOILO City – Western Institute of Technology completed its upset over Central Philippine University Golden Lions via an 85-74 win in the 2019 ILOPRISAA Meet tertiary men’s basketball do-or-die finals at the University of San Agustin Gym here.


Patrick John Gain tallied 18 points while Zaldy Patizar added 12 markers as WIT erased the twice-to-beat incentive of the Golden Lions in the finals to rule the tournament.


WIT opened the match with three straight three-pointers on Monday as they surged to a 35-23 advantage. A second quarter rally by the Golden Lions, however, allowed them to cut the deficit to 46-47 at the half.


The game was still tight for both teams in the third quarter but WIT hanged on to a 69-65 lead after three quarters before pulling away for good in the final quarter behind Gain and Patizar.


Miguel Sasuman finished the match with 30 points while Wilmer Dalumpines added 10 markers for the Golden Lions, which was undefeated in the tournament before losing twice in the finals.


Western Institute of Technology retained its crown, too, in the tertiary women’s basketball by defeating University of San Agustin, 77-63.


Janica Francisco ignited WIT[‘s offense with 27 points, while RJ de Asis and Dalyn Castracion contributed 16 and nine markers, respectively./PN
