BACOLOD City – Flower vendors in Bacolod City Public Plaza are set to be transfered to a designated site at the back of the Bacolod Arts Youth and Sports (BAYS) Center along Ferrero Street in the city Reclamation Area.
Supposedly, the 18 flower vendors in the public plaza were ordered by the city to vacate the area on or before Nov. 3.
According to Glen Amar, president of the Bacolod Plaza Flower Vendors Association, they asked City Administrator John Orola to be allowed to transfer to Ferrero Street on Nov. 9 instead of Nov. 3, because the newly-designated area provided for them by the city has no electricity and water yet.
Amar added that even though he believes the newly designated area may not be a good fit for their business, they have to accept the city’s decision.
Members of the city council earlier passed a resolution asking Mayor Evelio Leonardia, through the City Legal Office (CLO), to implement the relocation of the flower vendors from the Bacolod City Public Plaza to the designated site behind the Bacolod BAYS Center.
The city council expressed a need to relocate the flower vendors from the area in order to allow the full implementation of the rehabilitation, improvement, and beautification of the Bacolod City Public Plaza –pursuant to the plans designed by the City Engineer’s Office.
Leonardia earlier said that he aims to transform the plaza into something wholesome for Bacoleño families to enjoy, following a rehabilitation and improvement plan./PN
