ROXAS City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Capiz warned overage individuals who ran for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) posts of possible charges.

The Comelec-Capiz compelled the overage filers to withdraw their certificates of candidacies (COCs).

Withdrawing their COCs will saved them from legal impediments, according to Provincial Election Supervisor Wil Arceño.

Filipinos aged 18 to 24 are the only ones allowed to run for an SK post in his or her barangay, Arceño said, citing election rules.

On May 13, Comelec-Capiz identified five SK candidates who are overage. They were Bernard Vera, Richiel Vesales, Joe Ann Estanislao, Jose Ocag, and Myrel Benedicto, all residents of Jamindan town.

Three of them were running for SK chairperson while the other two, for SK kagawad. It was, however, not immediately clear who is running for what.

Comelec had advised them to withdraw their COCs, which they heeded.

But Arceño said there might be more over-aged filers in Capiz, especially that their validation was still not complete./PN
