ILOILO City – Charged with estafa, a 61-year-old woman was arrested in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya, Dumarao, Capiz yesterday.
Marilou Parreño was charged four years ago. She had been hiding since, a police report showed.
The resident of Barangay Bungsuan, Dumarao was in the house of a relative when police served her a warrant of arrest around 1 p.m.
Judge Rene Hortillo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 68 (Dumangas, Iloilo) issued the warrant and set the bail at P16,000.
Parreño was detained at the Dumarao police station.
Estafa is the legal term used to describe certain forms of swindling. It is a punishable crime under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code.
Under the law, swindling can be called estafa if it satisfies the following elements:
- There is an element of deceit or fraud used by the offender against the victim.
