ILOILO City – Policemen caught a senior citizen soliciting bets for the illegal numbers game “bookies” in Barangay Ungka 2, Pavia, Iloilo.

Lucia Lopez was detained at the Pavia police station around 4 p.m. on Monday.

According to Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela, Pavia police chief, the suspect yielded P205 cash believed to be bookies bets and illegal gambling paraphernalia such as betting slips.

Lopez faces a charge for violating Republic Act 9287 that outlaws illegal gambling.

If found guilty by the court as an illegal gambling collector or agent, the suspect faces “from eight years and one day to 10 years” of imprisonment./PN
