ILOILO – A 54-year-old woman was declared dead on arrival at the Aleosan District Hospital after she was shot by her nephew in Barangay Jamog Gines, Leon town.
Alias “Mildred” sustained a gunshot wound on the back of her body.
Captain John Pedric Padilla of the Leon Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the victim and the suspect identified as alias “Bugok,” 40, had a misunderstanding over the red cellphone case of the former.
“Waay pag-intindihanay nga regarding sa casing sang cellphone bala sang biktima. Wala to nagustuhan sang suspetsado, ginkuha niya ato kag gintutdan,” Padilla told Panay News.
The victim was lying down while watching television at their house around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, when the suspect shot him.
“Gahigda ni ang biktima, galantaw sang TV upod ang iya nga pamilya sa sulod balay. Ang bintana nga ni made of steel matting, visible gid didto sag gwa. Sunod ginpasuhotan ni sang suspetsado sang iya nga armas kag didto gintiro niya ang biktima kag naigu ni sa may likod nga bahin sang iya lawas,” Padilla added.
Following several negotiations, the suspect surrendered to the authorities on July 17.
Padilla said the suspect was a former New People’s Army rebel who surrendered recently and availed himself of the financial assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).
The suspect was detained at the Leon MPS, facing charges for murder and violation of Republic Act 10591, or illegal possession of firearms./PN
