SAN JOSE, Antique – Women must be “active drivers of change,” said Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.

Cadiao urged the active participation of women against all forms of violence through her speech during the opening program of Women’s Month celebration in Antique on Thursday at the Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park.

The opening program also served as the launch of the “One Billion Rising” movement, an expression of outrage through dancing to demand an end to violence against women in hundreds of countries across the world.

“For the abused women, battered wives, victims of rape, sexual harassments and other forms of violence, we have the right to shout for justice and let this be a challenge because we have now the voice to counter violence against women,” Cadiao stressed.

The provincial government, through its gender and development inter-agency committee, will spearhead women empowerment activities in Antique, said Cadiao.

This is in support for Proclamation No. 224, which “declaring the first week of March of every year as Women’s Week and March 8 as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day.” (With Vicente Villavert/PIA/PN)
