MANILA – The World Bank said Tuesday it was “extremely supportive” of the Philippines’ lockdown extension since it could lead to an early recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The country’s coronavirus task force on Tuesday announced the extension of the enhanced community quarantine of millions in Luzon to April 30, from April 12.
“This is something that can save lives. We are extremely supportive of the enhanced community quarantine and I think it makes sense to extend it so that there’s more time to prepare and flatten the curve and to ensure that everybody is safe,” World Bank country director for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand Achim Fock told ANC.
“In the end the more decisive you are in these measures, the earlier you can recover,” he added.
The World Bank is also coordinating with the Finance and Health departments for possible funding of “urgent needs” and fiscal support, Fock said.(ABS-CBN News)
