WITH attires showcasing the national costumes from different countries all over the world, cute small-sized flags waving in the air, and faces made beautiful by natural radiating smiles, the women of Zonta Club just elevated the month of the United Nations during Zonta Club of Iloilo City II’s United Nations celebration.
Zonta Club is the leading global organization of professionals who are empowering women. The Zonta Club of Iloilo City II in particular aims to empower Ilongga women and as well as female children.
This United Nations celebration of the Zonta Club of Iloilo City II was held last Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 at Dr. Sandra S. Gomez Residence. Despite the inclement weather, the women looked stunning in their national costumes. Gold, blue, red, and every color you can name were found in their fashionable outfits. Their strong, feminine, and beaming personalities were enough to brighten the sky in the rainy afternoon.
Of course, what them beautiful women was their strong sense of advocacy during the event. The Zonta Club United Nations Celebration was centered on an advocacy with the goal that could alter the lives of women for good, not just in the Philippines but also in the whole world.
During an exclusive interview with Panay News, Dr. Cheryl Nuñez, the President of Zonta Club of Iloilo City II explained why it is important for Zonta to celebrate United Nations.
Dr Nuñez informed, “We are in alignment with the advocacy of the United Nations. The United Nations is also a global organization that has been founded since 1945. It has 193 members worldwide. As of today, our advocacies are the same.”
She further explained, “The area of advocacy is the Sustainable Development Goals which sets the advocacy to be achieved in the next 15 years. The goal is the same with Zonta wherein it’s to eliminate all forms of violence against women, prevention of teenage pregnancy, and ending of child and early marriage among all others.”
This advocacy was highlighted during the program when it was spoken of after the singing of the United Nations hymn.
Also, the women were more empowered when the members of Zonta Club Iloilo City II went in front and spoke about the historic remarkable women coming from different parts of the world. For instance, Dr. Nuñez who wore an Indian costume that night spoke of Anandi Gopal Joshi, the first woman of Indian origin to graduate with the degree of Medicine in the United States. Truly in every part of the world there are empowering women who can lift others.
Zonta Club celebrates United Nations with a pure intent and desire to empower and change the lives of marginalized women in the society. Hand in hand, representing the different countries, Zonta Club of Iloilo City II unites to prove that empowered women are the ones who empower women!/PN
