Wright fires 22, Kyoto defeats Shibuya in B.League

MANILA – Matthew Wright had a solid offensive outing as Kyoto Hannaryz scored an 81-76 beating of Shibuya Sunrockers in the 2022-2023 Japan B.League Division 1 action on Sunday at the Kyoto City Gymnasium.

The Filipino-Canadian gunner just hit two three-pointers but still ended up with 22 markers to go with nine assists, three rebounds and a steal. The Hannaryz returned to their winning ways with a 10-17 win-loss slate.

Former NBA center Cheick Diallo also finished with 22 points along with 16 rebounds. Jarrod Uthoff had 14 markers, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks for Kyoto, which bounced back from a 94-88 loss to the same team last Saturday.

Ryan Kelly, previously of the Los Angeles Lakers, led the way for the Sunrockers (12-13) with 20 points. James Michael McAdoo had double-double 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Kevin Jones had 13 markers.

Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins also had their revenge game against the Utsunomiya Brex as they scored a 70-67 escape at the Brex Arena Utsonomiya.

Down 65-67 with over a minute left, the Filipino-American guard scored on a three-point play to give the Diamond Dolphins a 68-67 lead before Scott Eatherton drilled another jumper to widen the advantage for Nagoya.

Parks finished the contest with 17 markers, while Eatherton led the way with double-double 24 points and 13 rebounds as the Diamond Dolphins improved to 20-8 win-loss record.

Yuusuke Endo top-scored with 21 points, including six outside conversions, as Seiji Uno chipped in 13 markers as the Brex failed to follow up their 80-79 win last Saturday to drop to 12-16.

Meanwhile, Ilonggo Kiefer Ravena’s productive game went to naught anew as Shiga Lakes suffered a 99-87 defeat at the hands of Akita Northern Happinets at the Shiga Daihatsu Arena.

The former NLEX Road Warriors guard tallied 18 points, including two outside conversions, to go with four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block as the Lakes slumped to 4-24./PN
