WV bags Nat’l PRISAA HS girls volleyball title

ZAMBOANGA City – Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) emerged as champions in the secondary girls volleyball competition of 2023 National PRISAA on Monday at the Joaquin F. Memorial Sports Complex here.

WVPRISAA, which was composed mostly of players from Central Philippine University Golden Lions, captured the crown after defeating Region 7, represented by University of Bohol, in the finals.

Former National U-18 girls volleyball team member Zacchea Maganto spearheaded the Western Visayas-based squad in the triumph to be hailed as the Most Valuable Player and Best Opposite Spiker.

Rovy Ann Amuan, meanwhile, was named as the Best Setter, Jeselle Mae Abrot was awarded with the Best Libero award and Jozline Salazar was recognized as 1st Best Middle Blocker.

Also part of the team were Golden Lions players Yvonny Fajarito, Keicess Estelle Develos, Ayah Isabelle Gaurana, Anne Grace Gabinete, Meg Hondrade, Trixie Pauline Sampiano and Rossy Marie Sumalacay.

Completing the WVPRISAA crew were Noilyn Gel Amin from Sun Yat Sen High School, Mera Calderon from Hua Siong College of Iloilo and Necole Grace Deala from Santa Clarita International School.

Serving as head coach for the WVPRISAA secondary girls volleyball team is Jeffrey Alcarde with Alain Tarrazona as his assistant coach and Jonah-El Buenvenida as chaperon.

Aside from secondary girls volleyball, CPU Golden Lions-represented WVPRISAA clinched their ninth consecutive National PRISAA championship in the softball competition.

In tertiary tennis event, Althea Rose Martinez grabbed a gold medal in the women’s singles, while Avril Andrea Suace and Rissa Cubos got a silver in women’s double and Ela Hope Raymundo and Idelle Sonza won a silver in team event.

J Allan Noel Gayoso and Levee Marie Oliva also got a gold medal each in men’s and women’s tennis events, Brent Remaneses and Shana Marie Remaneses also won golds in secondary boys and girls singles events./PN
