MANILA – Taekwondo jins from Western Visayas showed their wares for Team Philippines in the 2019 ASEAN Taekwondo Championship held recently at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.
Julio Miguel Zapata and Leigh Andee Rodriguez of Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen delivered a gold medal each in kyorugi cadet boys finweight and girls bantamweight, respectively.
Ilongga Cindy Joy Diasnes of A. Diasnes Taekwondo Gym captured a gold medal in poomsae forms team with Faustina Marie Anicete and Laeia Simoune Soria. Diasnes also had a silver in recognized junior individual girls poomsae.
Capiznon Mikee Rose Regala also won a gold medal in Recognized Team Female U30 with Clare Therese Gaston and Angelica Joyce Gaw, while another Capiznon in Allyah Dominique Eusalan had a gold in Women’s Light Heavyweight-68kg kyorugi.
Negrense Mary Angeline Alcantara settled for a bronze medal finish in the Women’s Featherweight-49kg kyorugi event.
Team Philippines ended up as the overall champion in the two-day taekwondo event with 96 medals – 34 golds, 32 silvers and 30 bronze medals. Vietnam is at second with 25-20-44./PN
