WV cops seize P17-M ‘shabu’ in first half of January

ILOILO City – The intensified anti-illegal drug campaign in Western Visayas in the first two weeks of January this year led to the seizure of illicit substances valued at approximately P17.8 million and arrest of 196 suspects.

From January 1 to 15, various units under the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) confiscated 2,630 grams of shabu and 11 grams of marijuana from 157 operations.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office scored the biggest drug haul with P5.8 million worth of illegal drugs, followed by the Iloilo City Police Office with P5.4 million worth of recoveries. The Bacolod City Police Office and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) seized P3.1 million and P2.5 million worth of illegal drugs, respectively.

In terms of arrests, NOCPPO recorded the highest number at 86 suspects, or 43.87% of the total arrests.

Brigadier General Jack L. Wanky, director of PRO-6, commended the relentless dedication of the unit commanders and their respective drug enforcement units.

“I commend all our personnel involved in these 157 law enforcement operations. Their patience, dedication, and commitment to their sworn duty have resulted in these accomplishments. I urge you to maintain the intensity of our efforts in close coordination and collaboration with local government units, the community, and other law enforcement agencies,” said Wanky.

He added that appropriate charges have been filed against the arrested suspects./PN
