ILOILO City – Personnel of police drug enforcement units in Western Visayas were told to undergo mandatory drug testing every month.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), said this was part of their internal cleansing ordered by PRO-6 director Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda.
Last month, 1,580 PRO-6 personnel underwent drug testing. All yielded negative results for illegal drugs.
Should a cop test positive for drug use, he/she would be relieved and charged administratively, Malong said.
A policeman from the Dumangas, Iloilo police station tested positive for methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) in a recent random drug test.
The policeman was immediately relieved from the police station and transferred to the PRO-6’s Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit.
Drug tests were administered by the Regional Crime Laboratory and supervised by the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division./PN
