WV cops warned vs online ‘sabong’

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is warning all police personnel not to engage in online sabong and other forms of illegal gambling such as unsanctioned cockfighting or pauwak.

Violators would face administrative and criminal charges, according to Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, regional police director.

Huwag na huwag kayo magsabong or mag-engage in any gambling para hindi kayo mangutang,” Miranda warned, reiterating the directive of Philippine National Police chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar.

Last month, Police Corporal Virgilio Rojo, 37, of Barangay Botong, Oton, Iloilo was caught in a raid in the town’s Barangay Cagbang. He, along with four others, was reportedly promoting cockfighting.

Another case was the alleged suicide of Police Patrolman Marvin Del Castillo who reportedly shot himself in Barangay Damilisan, Miag-ao, Iloilo.  The suicide  was allegedly due to his debts in online sabong.
