AFTER settling for silver last year, Western Visayas’ discus thrower Franz Gela Bintad will aim for gold in this year’s Palarong Pambansa in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
She doubled her efforts in preparing to improve her runner-up finish in the 2017 edition of the games in San Jose, Antique, the native of Escalante City, Negros Occidental told Panay News.
“Nag-double time talaga ako sa ensayo ko this year,” said Bintad, who took home gold in secondary girls discus throw and silver in javelin throw in the recent Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation Track and Field Invitational Cup.
“Ang aim ko po this year is to win the gold medal dahil kinapos ako ng kaunti last year,” added the 5-foot-8 thrower. “Hinasa ko na din ang sarili ko by participating in various tournaments the past few months.”
Further motivating the Bacolod Tay Tung High School standout to perform well in the Palaro was the interest she drew from De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas.
“Of course it is flattering to receive offers from schools like DLSU and UST,” Bintad said. “It motivates me further to continue improving my game, especially in my pet events.”
Bintad won gold for Area 8 during the Palarong Panlalawigan 2017 in Negros Occidental. Her gold in the WVRAA this March punched her a ticket to this year’s Palaro./PN
