MARIKINA City – Western Visayas elementary boys basketball team reached the finals of the 2023 Palarong Pambansa after a 72-42 rout of Central Visayas in the semifinals on Friday at the MARIST School here.
The squad, which is composed of players from Bacolod Tay Tung High School elementary boys basketball team, are set to face Northern Mindanao in the finals on Saturday.
Prior to the semifinals win, the Ryan Nabor-mentored Western Visayas cagers scored lopsided victories against Davao Region (60-19) and Central Luzon (55-46).
The WV secondary boys 3×3 basketball squad bowed to National Capital Region in the semifinals round. They will still have a chance to salvage at least a bronze medal.
The Western Visayas secondary boys basketball team, meanwhile, failed to advance to the semifinals round after losing to National Capital Region-National University Bullpups on Thursday night.
That also served as the last game of De La Salle Greenhills-bound Karl Nonoy and NU Bullpups recruits Thomas Pillado, Ricky Murillo, Matt Laurence Acosta and Roy Malaga with the Red Phoenix team.
The WV squad, bannered by players from Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix secondary boys basketball team, finished the elimination round with just one victory as against two defeats.
In football, the WV secondary boys team failed to reach the championship round after suffering a 1-0 loss to Central Visayas in the semifinals on Friday at the University of the Philippines Football Field.
The Ilonggo booters can still end up with a bronze medal when they face National Capital Region in the battle-for-third place game on Saturday morning.
The WV elementary boys football team, composed of players from Barotac Nuevo Central Elementary School, reached the semifinals after a 5-0 victory over Bicol Region on Thursday./PN
