MANILA – Western Visayas’ elementary boys football team prevailed over Region 10 in the 2023 Palarong Pambansa elementary boys football competition on Wednesday at the University of the Philippines Diliman Field.
Drystan Alexandrae Delgado-Torres served as the difference maker for the Barotac Nuevo Central Elementary School-represented WV booters as they notched their first win in the tournament.
From a scoreless first half, the WV elementary booters broke the deadlock at the onset of the second half courtesy of a powerful hit of Delgado-Torres that stunned the Region 10’s goal keeper.
The Region 10 booters still tried to go for an equalizer but could not afford to have a decent attempt as the squad of head coach Jasper Jan Santos tightened their defense the rest of the way.
The Ilonggo elementary booters actually opened their Palarong Pambansa campaign against Bicol on Tuesday afternoon but the match was halted after six minutes with the field unplayable due to heavy rain.
The Region 6 booters were scorching to start their game against Bicol following two early conversions from Delgado-Torres and Kurt Arnel Deoduco before the game was stopped.
The Western Visayas-Bicol game will be resumed this afternoon following the Ilonggos’ encounter with Region 1 at seven in the morning at the same venue.
Meanwhile, the Western Visayas elementary girls volleyball team punched a ticket to the semifinals after notching their second win on Wednesday morning in Marikina City.
The Roberto Calamba-mentored WV elementary girls spikers scored a 25-17, 25-21 victory over Region 10 with Arianne Alayon being hailed as the Player of the Game.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Bacolod Tay Tung High School-reinforced WV elementary girls volley team scored a lopsided 25-11, 25-18 victory over Region 5./PN
