ILOILO City – Some 289,900 doses of the Janssen vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were allocated to Western Visayas, according to Dr. Jocelyn Te, medical officer of the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 6.

The first tranche of these vaccines by Johnson & Johnson arrived yesterday.

A total of 25 boxes (37,980 vials) for DOH-6, Iloilo City and provincial health offices arrived via the Iloilo Airport and another 10 boxes (14,000 vials) for Negros Occidental arrived via Bacolod-Silay Airport.

Each vial is equivalent to five doses.

The rest of the allocation is arriving today, July 20.

Te said these will be administered as one dose.

She also noted that senior citizens (A2) and adults with comorbidities (A3) will be the target priority groups for the Janssen jabs.

Based on the DOH-6 allocation list, Iloilo province will get the biggest allocation (80,000 doses) followed by Negros Occidental (70,000 doses); Capiz, Iloilo City and Bacolod City (30,000 doses each); Antique (25,000 doses); Aklan (15,000 doses); and Guimaras (5,000 doses).
