WV girl spikers see good chance in Palaro

Bacolod Tay Tung High School girl spikers will represent Western Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa this month in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

WESTERN Visayas’ secondary girls volleyball team is upbeat of its chances in the 2018 Palarong Pambansa this month in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

Despite their limited time to prepare, they remain optimistic they will be able to keep up with the contending teams, said veteran setter Marianne Sotomil.

Kahit na medyo limited ang time due to exams, hindi kami nagpapabaya sa preparations namin,” Sotomil told Panay News. “Palaro is one of the prestigious leagues in the country so dapat full force na talaga kami.”

“We will not settle for anything else but a gold medal,” she said.

“Personally, I want to bring my A-game here since I will graduate soon. I will do everything to do my share in helping my sisters achieve our goal here in Palaro,” Sotomil added.

Jose Montalbo, who stands as team manager, said they have scheduled tune-up matches in Cavite, Antipolo and Makati next week as part of their preparations.

Maganda ang chance namin this year,” Montalbo said. “We are seeded No. 3 but the girls are preparing hard to improve on our runner-up finish last year (as Negros Island Region representatives).”

Aside from Sotomil, also in the Western Visayan team are Shane Carmona, Alyssa Bertolano, Joan Monares, Jeanny Padilla, Nohlin Jundana, and Kiesha Bedonia.

Completing the roster of the Ian Macariola-mentored team are Joan Doguna, Erika Deloria, Shaira Jardio, Marixi Maligmat, and Rhean Almendralejo./PN
