WV HCUR at ‘low risk’ despite COVID surge

ILOILO City – The health care utilization rate (HCUR) in Western Visayas remained at low risk despite the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections.

Based on the Health System Capacity Monitoring of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 as of Jan. 12, the HCUR was 31.07 percent – of the 2,131 total bed capacity, 662 are occupied.

Data also showed that of the 491 total COVID Ward beds in the region, 74 or 15.07 percent were utilized.

For ICU (intensive care unit) beds, of the 165, 60 or 36.36 percent were utilized.

For isolation beds, of the total 1,308 only 512 or 39.14 were occupied.

Meanwhile, of the 167 total mechanical ventilators for COVID-19 cases, only 16 or 9.58 percent were utilized.

All of the highly urbanized cities (Iloilo and Bacolod) and provinces in the region have low risk HCUR.

However, in Iloilo City, data showed that its utilization rate for ICU beds was at moderate risk with 67.27 percent or 37 of 55 beds occupied.

As to the city’s quarantine identified facilities, around 333 beds were still available as of Jan. 12.

Currently, there are a total of 119 individuals who are quarantined in the city’s various quarantine facilities wherein 115 of them are COVID-19 positives.

Also, 398 persons are on home quarantine.

Guimaras province, on the other hand, has moderate risk utilization rate as far as its isolation beds were concerned. Based on available data, of the 23 total isolation, 16 or 69.57 percent were utilized.

Most of Region 6 is on Alert Level 3 with high risk classification.

Antique, Capiz and Iloilo province have moderate risk classifications while the rest are at high risk.

Based on the data, the region’s two-week growth rate is 585 percent while its average daily attack rate (per 100, 000 population) is 1.70 percent./PN
