ILOILO – The downgrading of pandemic alert levels in various parts of Western Visayas augurs well for the resumption of face-to-face classes, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
Last year, 20 schools were made pilot areas for limited face-to-face classes but eventually 80 more schools were named for the expansion of the classes.
“For the pilot schools, as per guidelines sang DepEd and Department of Health (DOH) joint memorandum circular, once ang area na-fall sa Alert Level 2 or lower, puede maka-resume ang aton 20 pilot schools,” said Hernani Escullar Jr., regional information officer of DepEd Region 6.
Starting today Aklan, Bacolod City, Capiz, and Guimaras are shifting to Alert Level 1, which DOH describes as the “new normal.”
On the other hand, Antique, Iloilo City, Iloilo Province, and Negros Occidental are shifting to Alert Level 2 after being under Alert Level 3 until yesterday.
The 20 pilot schools are the following:
* in Aklan – Malinao School for Philippine Craftsmen; Banga Elementary School in Aklan; Laserna Integrated School in Aklan
* in Antique – Mayabay Elementary School; Igsoro Integrated School; Antique National High School
* in Bacolod City – Alangilan National High School
* in Roxas City – Olotayan Integrated School
* in Negros Occidental – Hiyang Hiyang Elementary School in Cadiz City; Mabini National High School in Escalante City; Valladolid National High School; Aguntilang Elementary School; Colonia Divina Integrated School in Sagay City; Patag Diotay Elementary School in Silay City; Mauboy Elementary School in Sipalay City; Victorias National High School in Victorias City
* in Iloilo Province – Gamot Cogon Waldorf School in Zarraga town; Oxmont Memorial School in Calinog, town; Mulapula National High School in Passi City
* in Guimaras – Taras Elementary School
Regarding the 80 “expanded” schools, Escullar said they can resume face-to-face classes, too, in areas under Alert Level 1 and Alert Level 2 but the consent of local government units (LGUs) concerned are required.
Also, schools participating in the expanded face-to-face classes should comply with the requirements provided under the School Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT).
Schools have been advised to observe the guidelines under the SSAT.
“The No. 1 rule is for the school to be situated in low-risk areas. Inside the school, they have to have a foot bath, hand washing area, distance between learners, sanitizers, contact-less thermometer and triage area,” said Escullar.
Here’s the list of the 80 expanded schools per Schools Division Office or SDO.
