ILOILO City – Western Visayas recorded 1,539 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in six days, from Sept. 5 to 10.
This significant spike in cases was attributed to the mass testing carried out in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.
The Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 reported 355 new confirmed cases on Sept. 5, so far the region’s highest number of cases recorded in a single day.
The other new cases were the following: 253 on Sept. 6; 199 on Sept. 7; 229 on Sept. 8; 250 on Sept. 9; and 253 on Sept. 10.
As of yesterday, there were a total of 6,884 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region.
These past six days, the region also logged a significant spike in the number of COVID-19 patients who recovered from the viral infection.
In fact, DOH-6 reported that the number of patients who recovered rose to 3,589 – now higher than the number of actives cases at 3,194.
From Sept. 5 to 10, a total of 861 recovered cases were recorded – 134 on Sept. 5; 52 on Sept. 6; 120 on Sept. 7; 217 on Sept. 8; 273 on Sept. 9; and 65 on Sept. 10.
However, the total COVID-19 death toll also rose – now 101 including the six new deaths reported yesterday./PN
