WV police need 130 more new members

ILOILO City – After taking in over 600 new officers in October, the Western Visayas police were recruiting 130 more men and women in uniform, according to the Police Regional Office 6.

That was their quota for the fourth quarter, said Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas, chief of Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division.

As of last week applicants have reached more than 1,000.

Their training starts as soon as they have complied with all the documentary requirements, said Biñas.

Last month around 647 new police officers took their oath at the PRO-6 headquarters in Camp Martin Delgado at Fort San Pedro.

They will be detailed in police stations across the region, said Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, regional police director.

“You decided to embrace the police profession. This must be clear to you now: you are here to become part of the solution, not the problem,” Bulalacao then told the new officers.

Police officers are the “guardians of peace and security” and “the first to be called upon by the community,” he said. “So be responsible.”

Bulalacao admitted there is further need to impose discipline in the police organization. “Some personnel violate the laws themselves instead of being good examples.”/PN
