MANILA – Negros Occidental- and Iloilo City-based taekwondo jins made their presence felt with medal finishes in the recently-concluded 14th World Taekwondo Culture Expo.

Negros Taekwondo Union-Tiger New Gen (NTU-TNG) had the most medals at four among the Western Visayas-based taekwondo squads in the virtual tournament from Oct . 22 to 26.

Winning gold medals for the NTU-TNG team were Miguel Zapata (fast kicking), Beatriz Zapata (poomsae) and Jerik Paiwas (poomsae). 

Leigh Andee Rodriguez, on the other hand, settled for a silver medal finish in fast kicking category.

“Congratulations to our FANTASTIC FOUR for winning 3 GOLD and 1 SILVER medals in the recently concluded 14th World Taekwondo Culture Expo. Your NTU family is so so proud of you! Padayon lang ta!” NTU-TNG wrote on its Facebook post.

Team Phikoma Cadiz, meanwhile, bagged two medals — a gold courtesy of Rhiane Wyeth Llaguno in blackbelt cadet female and a bronze from Jeincis Heward Carian in blackbelt cadet male.

Bacolod City-based Hilado Bros Jins, on the other hand, also had two medalists in gold medal winner Cris Antoinette Hilado and silver medal winner in Cyrus Antwayne Hilado.

Iloilo Mark Victoriano Pinggol Taekwondo Gym, for their part, bagged three gold medals courtesy of Cyd Edryc Esmana, Julianna Martha Uy, and Joshua Cachero.

“Three out of our three taekwondo jins captured gold medals. Glory to God,” Iloilo MVP Taekwondo head coach Denmark Pinggol said. “I am proud of what our players have achieved.”

A. Diasnes Taekwondo Gym, on the other hand, had Ilonggo taekwondo jin Cindy Joy Diasnes as its gold medal winner./PN
