ILOILO City – Before this year ends, an increase in taxi fare will take effect.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the application of the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association.

The flag down rate is now permanently at P40.

Also, from the current P3.50 per two minutes of waiting time, commuters will be charged P2 per minute of waiting time.

According to LTFRB, too, from the previous P3.50 for each succeeding 300 meters, commuters will be charged P13.50 per kilometer.

The Association of Taxi Operators in Panay (ATOP) president Perfecto Yap said they were waiting for LTFRB’s go signal when to start imposing the new rates.

ATOP is also preparing for the recalibration of taxi meters.

“By November basi ma-implement na,” said Yap.

Yap said the new rates would somehow given taxi drivers some relief from the spiraling cost of fuel, auto parts and basic commodities./PN
