ILOILO City – Ten graduates from Western Visayas topped the March 2023 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT).

LEPT results released on Friday, May 19, showed that four topped the elementary level and six topped the secondary level.

With a 92.20 percent rating, Andrea Nicole Vicera Sumugat ranked No. 1 in the LEPT-Elementary Level.

Sumugat was a graduate of Bachelor of Elementary Education (summa cum laude) at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

Here are the three others from the region who topped LEPT-Elementary Level:

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Board for Professional Teachers announced that of the 60,896 examinees for elementary level, 24,819 or 40.76 percent passed, and 48,005 or 46.94 percent of the 102,272 examinees for secondary level passed.

Of the 24,819 elementary level passers, 19,390 were first-timers and 5,429 were repeaters.

For the secondary level, 39,890 passers were first-timers and 8,115 were repeaters.

Jirah Mae Flores from West Visayas State University could hardly believe that she would be ranked third in the board examination for the secondary level.

Flores said she was working and was not fully prepared to take the board exam, adding that her preparations for her college exams were more comprehensive than when she took the LEPT.

“Wala ko gid na-expect nga mag-top kay… bal-an ko man nga ang preparation ko is indi gid bala siling nga todo-todo gid review kay ga-work pa ko nga daan,” she said in an interview with DYRI RMN Iloilo.

Flores’ inspiration is her parents, who are both teachers.

“Nakita ko gid kung paano sila magtudlo sa mga bata, every day nila bala nga encounter kag struggles nila at the same time, kay siempre pag-abot nila sa balay wala man naga-untat ang obra sang maestra. So, na-witness ko gid ang tanan nga hardships sang isa ka teacher,” she added.

Flores is a native of Barangay Sto. Domingo, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. She completed her Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Science as magna cum laude./PN
