ILOILO City – Nurses at the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao district wanted a bigger share from the hospital’s Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) incentive.
But from the explanation of WVMC chief administration officer Esther Nievales, the nurses may have an incorrect notion of their PhilHealth share.
Some WVMC 80 nurses were pressing for an increase.
“They complained that their share from the hospital’s PhilHealth collection was lesser than those of nurses in other hospitals. They should not make such comparison. For one, we’re a big hospital with many employees, and this means many are sharing in the PhilHealth collection,” said Nievales.
She further explained that the PhilHealth share is divided into two – 50 percent for the doctors and 50 percent for the hospital staff that are non-doctors.
On Tuesday, the hospital management met all the hospital workers and explained the sharing guidelines.
“Our accountant also showed to them how much money goes to the hospital from PhilHealth,” said Nievales. “The money is deposited to us directly by the agency. We clearly presented to them how much is their share.”
Nievales stressed that the hospital’s PhilHealth share is a sort of incentive that WVMC workers must be thankful of.
“We have our own salary so regardless of our PhilHealth share, we must continue to work,” said Nievales.
Nievales added that a lawyer from PhilHealth visited the hospital to check their compliance with PhilHealth rules and regulations.
“According to the lawyer, we are doing the right thing,” said Nievales./PN
