WVRAA girls sweep Region 2 in Palarong Pambansa volleyball

DAVAO City – WVRAA secondary girls volleyball got to a strong start in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa after sweeping Region II, 25-14, 25-14, at the University of the Philippines-Davao Gym here.

Erika Deloria stood tall on the offensive end for the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts represented WVRAA girls spikers to finish off their opponent in just an hour on Monday.

“It’s a good start for us. The players were able to follow our game plan well,” said assistant coach Biboy Calamba. “But we know the games will be tougher for us as we go along.”

The WVRAA squad, which finished second runner up last year in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, will gun for its second straight victory when it battles Region VII at 3 p.m. today.

Also getting a strong start was the WVRAA secondary boys basketball team. It cruised to a 97-87 victory over the MIMAROPA team at the University of Southeastern Philippines Gym.

The WVRAA team, composed of players from Capiz and Negros Occidental, will aim for a 2-0 start in the competition when it faces Northern Mindanao at 7:30 p.m. today.

Meanwhile, Bago City native Kate Martinez delivered the first medal for the WVRAA delegation. She captured a silver medal in the secondary girls discus throw event on Monday morning.

The Blue Barons had its first gold medal in Para Games courtesy of Rodel Diaz of the Iloilo National High School who won the gold medal in the standing long jump visually impaired (low vision) category./PN
