WESTERN Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Blue Barons secondary girls volleyball team’s libero Melody Pons is set to follow the footsteps of her elder sister Bernadeth Pons in the collegiate ranks.
The Talisay City, Negros Occidental native said she is set to move to the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws once she finished her high school at the Rafael Lacson Memorial National High School.
Melody added that she did not think twice on committing to the Lady Tamaraws for college and has in fact trained with its collegiate team during summer the past two years.
“I am joining FEU’s practices during summer the last two years,” said Melody, who played a key role in Blue Barons’ runner-up finish in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa secondary girls volleyball.
“In fact, FEU wanted me to transfer already and continue my high school there but I followed the advice of my coach in Talisay City to finish my secondary degree first in (Rafael Lacson),” she added.
The 16-year-old Melody also said she will be reverting back to her old position as an open hitter once she moves to the Lady Tamaraws, just like her sister Bernadeth.
“Like ate (Bernadeth) I am really a spiker but I chose to play as libero,” Melody said. “I expect to return to my original position at FEU. I am looking forward to move there even if the training there is much tougher than in Talisay.”/PN
