
DAVAO City – The WVRAA secondary girls and boys volleyball teams both reached the finals of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa after besting their semifinals opponents on Friday here.
The Blue Barons secondary girls volleyball team renewed its mastery of Region VIII with a 25-16, 25-16 straight set victory and entered the finals opposite National Capital Region this morning.
The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts-represented Blue Barons heated up on offense quickly in the first two sets as they jumped to an early lead before preventing their opponents from gaining momentum.
“We are happy that we will be able to improve our finish last year but we know that we will have a tough opponent on Saturday,” said assistant coach Biboy Calamba. “Nevertheless, we will just give our best and hope for a positive result.”
The Blue Barons secondary boys volleyball team, composed of players from Livingstones International School, also barged to the championship round after defeating Region III in the semifinals.
The WVRAA elementary girls volleyball team also made it to the championship round after defeating the NCRAA.
Elsewhere, the WVRAA Blue Barons secondary boys football team leaned on the conversion of Barotac Nuevo native LJ Jayaon to beat Calabarzon in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon.
The WVRAA secondary boys basketball team bows out of contention after losing in the quarterfinals to NCRAA-National University Bullpups, which is led by Ilonggo Gerry Abadiano and Bacolodnon Harold Alarcon.
WVRAA 3×3 basketball team, composed of Ralph Allen Cagalawan, Kent Esparagoza, Rommel Hechanova and Andy Villamer, also faltered in the quarterfinals against Region X, 21-18./PN
