WVRAA spikers upbeat for 2019 Palaro stint

DAVAO City – The secondary girls volleyball team of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) are upbeat of their chances in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa, which will kickoff today here.

Middle blocker Joan Marie Monares said with a much improved lineup, the squad are still optimistic that they can improve on their third place finish last year in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

“Last year’s Palarong Pambansa may not be for us but this time we have worked harder to win,” Monares said. “I know that we came here much stronger team than last year and I know we have improved a lot.”

She added: “Maramiyung grumaduate sa team last year pero marami dinyung nag-step up to fill up that losses and was even doing better. We have so much to prove and babawi kami ngayon.”

Jose Montalbo, who stands as the manager of the squad, said that as part of their preparation, they had tune-ups with some Davao-based teams since the delegation’s arrival here on Good Friday.

Gusto namin ang chance namin this year,” Montalbo said. “Not discounting our team last year, but we have some good additions this year that I know have make this team a contender here in Palaro.”

Aside from the Bacolod City native Monares, also on the side of WVRAA are team captain Shane Carmona, Erika Deloria, Alyssa Bertolano, Kiesha Bedonia and Katherine Shane Cortez.

Completing the roster of the Ian Macariola-mentored team are Alvea Aurelo, Nikha Cabasac, Rhean Hebraica Almendralejo, Melody Pons, Myrtle Escanlar and Ruchelle Relente./PN
