ILOILO City – The cumulative number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas hit 100,858.
This included 807 new cases confirmed yesterday that increased the active cases to 11,375, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6.
The new cases were from Iloilo province (367), Iloilo City (107), Bacolod City (64), Capiz (63), Antique (61), Negros Occidental (56), Aklan (54), and Guimaras (29).
So far, the region logged 87,058 total recoveries and 2,401 COVID deaths.
Dr. Althea De Guzman, officer-in-charge director of the DOH Epidemiology Bureau, said Western Visayas along with Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Cagayan Valley, Northern Mindanao, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Visayas, Ilocos Region, and Davao Region are “high risk” while the rest of the regions are of moderate risk classification.
De Guzman said these areas with “moderate to critical” risk classification are under “Alert Level 4” while their healthcare utilization rate is now over 70 percent.
In Western Visayas, particular areas cited are Antique, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Iloilo City.
The whole country itself is deemed at high risk, with COVID-19 cases increasing by 20 percent in the previous week./PN
