ILOILO City – A West Visayas State University (WVSU) graduate topped the November 2023 Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Cris Vinz Corpuz Tomboc led the passers with a rating of 91 percent. He tied with Aristotle Castronuevo of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in the top spot.
Tomboc, a native of Sultan Kudarat province, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from WVSU-La Paz.
“I am forever grateful to the wonderful people who stood by me from day one,” Tomboc posted in his Facebook account.
He added that he dedicated his success to his parents who worked hard in sending him to nursing school.
Aside from Tomboc, three other nursing graduates of WVSU-La Paz made it to the Top 10:
* Top 8 – Dennyl Marie Pelaez Chavez (89.60%)
* Top 9 – Pert Henry Gabutin Mabaquiao (89.40%)
* Top 10 – Jannah Kyra Jalando-on Javelona (89.20%)
All 152 examinees from WVSU-La Paz passed the exam.
Dr. Raul C. Alvarez Jr., director IV of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 6, congratulated Tomboc and other successful examinees.
Alvarez said he was not surprised by the results, adding that WVSU-La Paz has been consistently regarded as one of the top performing schools in the nursing licensure exam.
He particularly cited WVSU-La Paz’s achievement in the November 2022 nursing board exam where 19 examinees landed in the top 10.
According to the PRC, 25,761 out of 32,203 passed the November 2023 Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination.
The nursing board exam was conducted on Nov. 11-12, 2023 at testing centers in Metro Manila, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Calapan, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, Zamboanga, Kidapawan, and Palawan./PN
