ILOILO City – West Visayas State University (WVSU) on Luna Street, La Paz district has received a go-signal from the Legal Education Board to open a College of Law this School Year 2020-2021.
WVSU president Dr. Joselito Villaruz said yesterday they received an email from the staff of the Legal Education Board informing them that their application had been approved and that official communication be sent to them as soon as possible.
“Delay lang because of the pandemic. We have to get the approval of the legal education board before we could actually say that we are ready to open,” Villaruz told Panay News on Wednesday.
Villaruz added they will post on the WVSU official website the necessary requirements early next week so that they can begin the application process.
WVSU will be giving interested applicants an aptitude examination. Interview is a must before they could enter, added Villaruz.
Villaruz disclosed that only 25 applicants will be this year to ensure that the program’s pioneers are as good or well-performing as they are at the College of Medicine.
“We want to be very good and exceptional program on the region so we have to limit our students,” he added.
If the bar examination shows that 25 students performing well, WVSU will increase the number of students, he added.
Villaruz also clarified that there is no prioritization especially for WVSU graduates.
For the tuition fees, Villaruz said students will pay minimum fee because WVSU is a state university.
Currently, WVSU is hiring faculty members for the College of Law.
With the opening of the College of Law at WVSU this academic year, they will be the first state university to offer legal education in Region 6./PN
