ILOILO City – Nearly 21,000 hopefuls took the West Visayas State University-College Admission Test (WVSU-CAT) yesterday, setting a record high in the institution’s history.
Of the 20,925 examinees, around 11,600 senior high school students took the exam at WVSU-Main Campus in La Paz district here, while 9,325 applicants took the test at satellite campuses in Pototan, Janiuay, Calinog, Lambunao, towns in Iloilo, and Himamaylan City in Negros Occidental.
This year’s turnout is significantly higher in comparison to last year’s figures, where only 18,630 individuals took the WVSU-CAT, with 5,318 passing the test.
Examinees were divided into three groups, spanning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
WVSU-CAT is a standardized test to determine the initial qualified applicants who can proceed to the aptitude test, interview, and medical examination.
The applicants who will eventually pass through the screening process will then be qualified to enroll as first-year students for the incoming academic year 2024-2025 in August./PN
