TALISAY City – The taekwondo jins of West Visayas State University (WVSU) showcased their skills in the men’s and women’s taekwondo during the 2020 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Meet here on Feb. 3.
WVSU claimed the overall championship in the women’s category with five golds, four silvers and two bronze medals, while the men’s team placed second with five golds and three bronzes.
Kyorugi’s Jesa Lastrado, Jevy Ann Cachuela, Roanne Martinez and Jonalyn Jalandoon and Cleo Angeline Ruel of poomsae notched their respective gold medals. Isanza Ruel earned silver, while Kristine Las Pinas and Minnie Ayalin bagged a bronze each.
Winning golds in the men’s event were the trio of Kenneth Gascon, Bienvinido Galila and Efren Leonoro in the team poomsae, while Frech Cande Sola also earned his in kyorugi. The bronze medal winners were Nikko Los Banes and Jhon Paul Allado.
“I am delighted and contented with our performance here in SCUAA, since all of the taekwondo jins have given their best,” said WVSU sports and athletics director Richard Gabayoyo. “I cannot ask for a better result from my players.”
Aside from the gold medal winners from WVSU, other taekwondo jins qualifying for the National SCUAA were Alexander Belarmino, Omanzie Barcelona, Clifford Sael, Jonathan Santamena, Jinamae Narce and Aidelyn Delfin from the University of Antique.
Nero Tenefracia, Kate Maloco, Joannah Saludes and Jessa Gales of Iloilo Science and Technology University, Rogen Tondo, Angel Ocura and Israel Alvior from Central Philippine State University, Moises Villorente from Aklan State University and Jasper Saga from Carlos Hilado Memorial State Colleges also earned their qualifications./PN
